Brownsea Pack – Ben Alembick (Akela)
This is my first newsletter as Akela of Brownsea Pack and I would like to thank Les Prescott for all he did as Leader during his stewardship of the Pack. I am delighted that he has agreed to continue working with the Pack as an Assistant Leader.
Since the last newsletter the Pack has been very active. In the autumn, we had a great time 10-pin bowling in Sutton, we organised a Halloween party with fancy dress and enjoyed a wide game in Nonsuch Park in the dark. Thanks to all the parents who supported us on our Parents’ Evening in November when we showed the camp film - thanks very much to John Humber for the time he put into producing the excellent film once again.
At the Senior Residents’ Party, Les produced an item where the Cubs depicted a Radio Show from the 1930’s featuring The Ovaltineys. Many of the audience remembered the show, but Les tells me it was before his time... We concluded the term with a party games night.
The New Year programme started with a Beetle Drive, and we’ve included Code Breaking, learning about the Patron Saints of Britain, practising for the District Chess Competition and making pancakes. The Cubs have also had a go at creating a design for the Group’s 75th Anniversary badge.
In our future programme, we look forward to visiting the Mansion in Nonsuch - visiting a Police Station and undertaking work for the Local Knowledge badge.
We’ve welcomed eight into the Pack since the last newsletter: George Culver, Joshua Ingles, Harry Eates, Charles Eates, Scott Smith, Ryan Smith, Regan Winter and Tyler Carroll.
At the February Scouts’ Own, Matthew Coates went up to Silver Troop, and we wish him well in his scouting.
